Vehicle security
No Fob No Start stops the car being driven away unless your authorised tag is with you. Get in and start it as normal and nothing happens until the tag is present, so a thief who has relayed or cloned your key still cannot take it.
Price £550
It is a second, independent condition on the car starting. The vehicle's own key or button still works exactly as it did — the difference is that the engine will not drive away unless a separate authorised tag is inside the car at the same time. That tag lives on your keyring, in a bag or in a pocket, and it needs no buttons pressed and nothing remembered.
The point of it is the way cars are actually stolen now. Most modern theft is not a break-in. It is relay theft, where two people amplify the signal from a key sitting on a hall table, or key cloning, where the car's own data network is used to program a fresh key. Both attacks end with a thief holding something the car accepts as its key.
This makes the key insufficient on its own. Relaying a signal from your hallway does nothing, because the tag is not in the hallway — it is with you. There is no keypad on the dashboard, no PIN to enter and no sequence to get wrong.
Anyone with keyless entry and go, which is now most cars from the last decade and nearly all of the ones being targeted. If your key opens the doors as you walk up to it, the attack this defends against is the attack aimed at your car.
It suits people who want the protection without a routine. A ghost immobiliser asks for a PIN sequence every time you drive; this asks for nothing, because carrying the tag is something you already do with your keys. If you would rather have the PIN and no tag to lose, that is the ghost immobiliser and it sits alongside this rather than above it.
It is also worth knowing that this is included as standard on the S5 Plus. If you are already considering a tracker at that level, you are not choosing between them — you would be getting both.
The unit is installed concealed and wired into the vehicle's own loom. Where it goes is deliberately not something we publish, for the same reason a tracker's location is not: an immobiliser a thief can find in the first place they look has stopped being one.
It is paired to your tags and then tested on your own car before you leave — the car started with the tag present, and refusing to move without it. You see that happen rather than being told it will work.
The work is done by an IMI-approved technician trained by The OBD Company, on dealer-level tools rather than a generic cable.
The work is done at our own unit at 85 Bogmoor Road in Glasgow, across from the Shieldhall test centre. Getting properly into a car's wiring is workshop work, and a car with its interior trim off is not a car you want sitting on a driveway.
Vehicle security is half of what this workshop does. It is not a sideline attached to a bodyshop, and the fitting is done by an IMI-approved technician trained by The OBD Company rather than by whoever was free.
There is nothing to pay after the day. This is not a monitored service, so there is no subscription, no renewal and no way for the protection to quietly lapse. That is a genuine difference from tracking, where the monitoring has to stay live for the cover to mean anything.
We will tell you if it is the wrong product for what you are trying to do. If your insurer has asked for something specific, it is almost certainly a Thatcham-certified tracker rather than an immobiliser — check your policy, and if it names a category, look at S5 or S7 instead.
£550 fitted, with nothing to pay afterwards.
What moves it is the vehicle rather than the day. Some cars take longer to get into properly and a few need a different approach entirely. If yours is one of them we will say so when you send the registration, not once it is on the ramp.
Bring the car to us and we will pair a replacement. We would rather you carried a spare from the start, and we will set one up at fitting if you ask. It has to be done in person — a security system anyone could re-pair over the phone would not be much of a security system.
No. It is a condition on the car being driven away, not on it staying running. Nothing about it interferes with the vehicle once it is moving.
Usually not, and you should not assume it. Insurers asking for a tracker are naming a Thatcham category, and an immobiliser is a different product answering a different question. Check your policy, and if it names S5 or S7, fit that. This sits alongside it.
No. There is no keypad, no LED and no aftermarket box on the dashboard. Someone sitting in your car with your key sees a completely standard interior.
No. The tag is passive — it needs to be in the car, not in your hand. You get in and start the car exactly as you did before.
Usually yes. It is a removal and a refit rather than a new system, so it costs less than starting again. Ask when you change the car.
